Music Theory for Music Composition
We will dig into music theory applied to composing original music. Rather than thinking of music theory as a set of rules we’ll get into how we can leverage theory to get better at writing music. This is not a typical theory course because we will immediately start writing music as a group.
The course will be taught in three individual parts which will last about 3 hours each:
(1) Intervals and why we care.
(2) Writing imitative counterpoint with or without an instrument.
(3) How to apply what we now know!
By the end of the course attendees will share a common language to communicate about music, know how to write imitative counterpoint, and start to apply their new knowledge to new compositions.
